Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) - Shipment Status
DHL EDI TRACKING THE 3RD STEP TOWARD ACTIVELY MANAGING YOUR ACCOUNT
If you want to store and analyze tracking data in your own system, DHL can provide electronic shipment status information via our Shipment Status Interchange (SSI) system.
As a package travels to its destination, shipment disposition updates are posted to DHL's system. SSI automatically reports new dispositions for shipments to you, on a schedule that fits your needs.
SSI is designed for customers who need timely (up to 18 times per day, M-F) shipment status information on an automated basis. Each SSI file includes final delivery information as well as any pertinent en-route information you choose to receive.
SSI data allows you to provide better and faster responses to your customers when they inquire about the status of their packages.

EDI Shipment Status Formats:
214 – Industry standard shipment status format defined by ANSI X12. Preferred by customers with X12 experience or those who prefer a standard format that can be used across multiple trading partners. An EDI translator is required to process the 214 data files.
Format 4 – DHL’s proprietary multiple-record format. Each record is 160 bytes long and starts with a one-character record-type indicator. Each file contains a single batch header record followed by multiple detail records and a single trailer record. One detail record is written out for each shipment status event reported.
Comma Delimited Format – DHL proprietary single-record comma-delimited format. Each record is 196 bytes. A comma separates each field, making it easy to pull data into spreadsheet software.
SHIPTNR - DHL proprietary multiple-record fixed length format. Each record is 1000 bytes and starts with a once-character record-type indicator. Each shipment contains a Customer Reference and a Shipment Record. The SHIPTNR format contains greater detail than other formats without the looping format of the ANSI X12 looping structure.
