Use the Interactive Classifier (IC) tool to search for and identify the classification code for a product.
To use the IC:
- Country: Enter the country code or click Select Country to select the code from a list of countries.
- Code Type: Select the type of classification code from the drop down list. HS (Harmonised System) is an internationally accepted and uniform system for classifying goods for customs, statistical and other purposes. ECN (Export Control Number), referred to as ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) in the US, is restricted to exports for dual-use products. A dual-use product can be used for either civilian or military purposes. If you are shipping non dual-use goods, it is more appropriate to use an HS-based classification for your product.
- Keywords: Enter the word(s) that best describe the product. The keywords enable the IC to classify the product.

Click Search to start the classification search.
Review the search results listed in the Select a Classification column to identify the group of products that best describes your product and click the associated code.
Review the next level of search results and click the code that best describes your product.
Continue this process until you reach the end of your code search and you see a code that is identified as the final classification (the code appears in bold black).

To go backwards in the code search, click a code in the Current Selection Hierarchy column.
