Brad Lidge of the Houston Astros was selected as the winner of "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball® Delivery Man of the Month Award" for July. The officially-sanctioned Major League Baseball Award recognizes the most outstanding relief pitcher during each month of the regular season.

Lidge was a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities in July, helping the Astros finish the month with an impressive 22-7 record. He finished with a 1.64 ERA, striking out 15 batters over 11 innings pitched, leading the Astros to the top of the National League Wild Card standings. Lidge assumed the closer's role for Houston at the end of June last season and set a National League record for strikeouts by a reliever in a single season with 157. Lidge, who represented the National League in last month's All-Star Game in Detroit, is currently fourth in saves in the NL with 27.

June 2005 Winner
Chad Cordero of the Washington Nationals was selected as the winner of "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball® Delivery Man of the Month Award" for June. The officially-sanctioned Major League Baseball Award recognizes the most outstanding relief pitcher during each month of the regular season.

Cordero was a perfect 15-for-15 in save opportunities in June, tying a Major League Baseball record for saves in a month. He finished with a 0.00 ERA, striking out 14 batters over 16.1 innings pitched, helping the Nationals finish the month with an impressive 20-6 record. Cordero leads the Major Leagues with 30 saves and has been one of the main reasons the Nationals are on top of the National League East standings. Cordero recently set a franchise record of 26 consecutive saves, when he went from April 21 until July 3 without failing to convert a single opportunity. In just his second full Major League season, Cordero was selected to represent the National League in the 2005 All-Star Game in Detroit.

May 2005 Winner
Trevor Hoffman of the San Diego Padres was selected as the winner of "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball® Delivery Man of the Month Award" for May. The officially-sanctioned Major League Baseball Award recognizes the most outstanding relief pitcher during each month of the regular season.

In May, Hoffman was a perfect 12-for-12 in save opportunities in May, compiling the highest one month save total of his illustrious career. He finished with a 0.82 ERA, allowing just one run and striking out 13 batters over 11.0 innings pitched, helping the Padres finish the month with an impressive 22-6 record. He allowed only six hits and one walk, while holding opposing batters to a .154 batting average. Hoffman earned his 400th career save on May 9, becoming only the third player in history to reach that plateau, joining John Franco and Lee Smith. His 407 total saves with the Padres rank as the most saves ever recorded by a player for one Major League Club.

April 2005 Winner
Jose Mesa of the Pittsburgh Pirates was selected as the inaugural winner of "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month Award" for the month of April.

In April, Mesa was eight for eight in save opportunities, saving each of the Pirates’ victories for the month. The right-hander struck out 10, walked only two, and allowed just one earned run while posting a 1.13 ERA in eight appearances. In recording his eighth save of the season on April 27, Mesa became the first Dominican-born player, the third Latino player, and 19th pitcher in Major League history to record 300 career saves.

On May 13, Mesa was presented with the "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month Award" during a special pre-game ceremony at the Pirates’ home stadium, PNC Park. The award was presented by Tom Thiel, regional sales director for DHL.

In recognition of this honor, DHL donated $1,500 to the local Pittsburgh chapter of The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the official charity of Major League Baseball, in Jose Mesa’s name.

Representatives from the Pittsburgh Boys & Girls Club participated in the pre-game ceremony and accepted the donation check from DHL.
