Diversity Focused:
DHL is committed to creating an inclusive, open and respectful culture that embraces the differences in the thoughts and backgrounds of our people, our customers, our business partners, and the markets we serve in order to drive greater business success.
Sustainability Focused: Helping the Environment, People & Society
Sustainability is a core element to us. Our programs are focused on protecting the environment, helping people and being role models for society. Here are just some of the things we are doing to make the world a better place: one person and one package at a time.
Environment:
As a global logistics provider, we depend heavily on fossil fuels, so we are taking our own steps to reduce the impact by becoming a greener company:
DPWN is committed to reducing its own greenhouse emissions. In fact, we plan to reduce CO2 from our own road transportation by 5 percent compared with 1990 by 2010.
DPWN is the first logistics company to offer select business and private customers CO2 neutral parcel shipping.
DPWN adheres to the stipulations of the Kyoto Protocol – voluntarily.
People & Society:
At DHL we empower our employees to be community focused. Through volunteer programs and global initiatives we take an active role in supporting the communities we work and live in. Among the programs employees around the world support:
Disaster Response Teams (DRT): As part of a strategic initiative with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the DRT applies its professional knowledge of logistics and transportation to help governments organize the handling, warehousing and loading of relief goods for onward transportation in an efficient manner, ultimately reducing bottlenecks at the airport close to the scene of a major sudden-onset natural disaster. Over the past few years, the DRT has supported recovery efforts for major catastrophic events, including the Pakistan Earthquake (2004), Indian Ocean Tsunami (2004), Hurricane Katrina (2005), Peru Earthquake (2008), Myanmar Cyclone (2008) and the China Earthquake (2008).
UNICEF: Since 2006 we have supported UNICEF through a global partnership that provides UNICEF with long-term assistance in its worldwide fight to reduce child mortality. We support UNICEF in a variety of ways including: providing our core competence in logistics as an in-kind donation, implementing a global donation program, and enabling employee volunteers to support health and education initiatives in the field.
Employee Volunteer Programs: Throughout the country employees are encouraged to support local organizations. Volunteer groups have actively participated in fundraisers, walks and more activities to support causes close to their hearts.
