DHL EXPRESS' CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER HONORED AS 2004 PREMIER 100 IT LEADER BY IDG'S COMPUTERWORLD
PLANTATION, FL -- January 23, 2004
"The Voice of IT Management" Recognizes Steve Bandrowczak for Creativity and Business Savvy in 5th Annual Awards Program

DHL Express, the global market leader of the international express industry, today announced DHL CIO, Steve Bandrowczak, has been recognized by IDG's Computerworld, the "Voice of IT Management," as one of the business world's Premier 100 IT Leaders. The award honors executives who show exemplary technology leadership in resolving pressing business problems. Honorees, including Bandrowczak, were named and profiled in the January 5 issue of Computerworld and will be honored again at Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference, occurring March 5 - 7, 2004, at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort, Palm Desert, Calif.

Bandrowczak was selected from nearly 600 nominees who were measured against Computerworld's IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics that describes executives who guide the effective use of IT in their organizations, and evaluated by the editors and by an external panel of past Premier 100 honorees. Other honorees include leading IT executives from corporations such as J.P. Morgan Chase, Marriott International, American Express, Lockheed Martin, MetLife and the U.S. Air Force.

"Our Premier 100 list honors those who've had a positive impact on their IT groups and their companies during some of the toughest times in years," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "They lead people and projects to success. They're adept communicators who are 'bilingual' in tech-speak and business talk. But most significantly, they're still willing to take risks in these highly risk-averse times."

In his role as Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President, Information Systems for DHL in the Americas, Bandrowczak is responsible for overseeing all IT initiatives for the Americas Region. Most recently, Bandrowczak was challenged with consolidating all IT functions across the Americas into one location, DHL's Americas Information Services Center (AMIS) in Scottsdale, Arizona. This IT facility is one of three central command points for DHL's "follow the sun" service strategy, which ensures DHL employees and customers have the highest level of support 24 hours a day. AMIS, along with two other IT centers in London and Kuala Lumpur, each take turns facilitating DHL's vast computing and telecommunications network (DHLNET) during an 8-hour period. The objective of the consolidation project in the U.S. was to create a state-of-the-art global data center that was capable of serving the DHL business in the Americas and managing global shared services, while at the same time reducing the overall IS costs, improving service and supporting increased collaboration between various IS departments.

"This award means a great deal to DHL because it highlights our company's commitment to world class information technology which brings tremendous value to our customers," said John Fellows, CEO of DHL. "We are very proud of what Steve and his staff have accomplished. By successfully consolidating all Americas IT functionality into one state-of-the-art facility in Phoenix, DHL Americas completes the global IT strategy to provide unmatched customer service and IT collaboration around the globe."

The complete list of Premier 100 IT Leaders can be found in the January 5, 2004 issue of Computerworld and online at www.computerworld.com. The issue includes several feature articles summarizing the challenges IT Leaders expect to face in the coming year, including motivating staff, avoiding project pitfalls, shoring up network security and preparing for the rebound.
