DHL utilizes an indexed fuel surcharge based upon the fuel prices
published monthly by the U.S. Department of Energy. This method closely links
fuel surcharges to current fuel prices and adjusts quickly to changes
up or down in fuel prices.
These surcharges are based on the spot price for fuel, and are applicable to all DHL products, except for
the following services: DHL Same Day, DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Global Mail and DHL Solutions.
Air Express and International Fuel Surcharge
The Air Express and International indexed surcharge calculation is linked to the monthly rounded average of the U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) price for a gallon of kerosene-type jet fuel as published by the U.S. Department of Energy. DHL applies the monthly rounded average from the period two months prior to calculate the applicable fuel surcharge percentage. For example, the December 2008 fuel surcharge percentage as calculated by DHL was based on the USGC monthly rounded average from October 2008.

On-Highway average price for
a gallon of diesel fuel as published by the U.S. Department of
Energy. DHL applies the monthly rounded average
from the period two months prior to calculate the applicable fuel surcharge percentage. For instance, the December 2008 fuel surcharge percentage as calculated by DHL was based on the U.S. On-Highway monthly rounded average from October 2008.

The calculation for fuel surcharge includes the following fees (where applicable): On Demand Pickup; Delivery Area Service; Remote Area Service; Residential Delivery; DHL Next Day 10:30 AM Service; Saturday Delivery; Saturday Pickup; Large Package; Excess Limits Fees; Pickup & Return on Demand (PROD). If the fuel surcharge rises above the maximum displayed price ranges or percentages, the tables will be updated utilizing the same calculation method.
